Is Swinburne’s God as Simple as Possible?

چکیده

In this commentary I examine Richard Swinburne’s account of God’s moral goodness. According to Swinburne, goodness consists in His immunity irrational motivation and the maximal perfection motivation. Such a God Swinburne calls ‘best-acting’ argues that He is simplest kind personal who could explain existence our universe. my commentary, first consider some implications God's goodness, which seem problematic me; second, offer own nature action, be an answer these problems. identifies two types explanation empirically observable reality, impersonal (scientific) but reduces both terms substances their powers, suggesting decisive factor choosing its simplicity. The difficulty recognizing best-acting as best for universe what makes such morally good libertarian choice accordance with reason, implies presence Him potentiality should able actualize choice. But means metaphysical complexity, therefore, would possible substance explaining only if purely actual, i.e. devoid any potentiality, impossible. Relying on Aristotle’s idea activity, try show substance, call God-Virtue, possible. My argument assumes every possesses principle actualization leads flourishing. case intelligent substances, flourishing virtue. Not however, involves change, so there distinction between changing unchanging (divine) – former transition from potential state into actual one, whereas divine does not need transition. It follows it whose action involve virtue existing independently identical itself. conclude brief responses objections might raised against

Making Neural QA as Simple as Possible but not Simpler

Recent development of large-scale question answering (QA) datasets triggered a substantial amount of research into end-toend neural architectures for QA. Increasingly complex systems have been conceived without comparison to simpler neural baseline systems that would justify their complexity. In this work, we propose a simple heuristic that guides the development of neural baseline systems for ...

Reasoning about mental states in sequential games: As simple as possible, as complex as necessary

Because of limited cognitive resources, humans use heuristics in problem solving and decision-making. We argue that reasoning about mental states also comprises the use of heuristics. This has been tested in sequential games, in which one player’s outcomes depend on another player’s decisions. Empirical findings show that participants apply simple strategies, or heuristics, for as long as these...

Statecharts For Requirements Specification – As Simple As Possible , As Rich As Needed

Statecharts have evolved into a widely used instrument for specifying system behavior and interaction. Several variants of statecharts have been developed, for example, Harel's original statecharts, UML state machines or derived concepts such as the state machines in RSML. In this paper I investigate how a statechart variant for requirements models should look if we want it to be as simple as p...

Mushrooms as Possible Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Agents

The aim of the study is to examine in-vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of the acetonic and methanolic extracts of the mushrooms Boletus aestivalis, Boletus edulis and Leccinum carpini. Antioxidant activity was evaluated by using free radical scavenging activity and reducing power. In addition, total content of phenol and flavonoid in extracts were determined as pyrocatechol equivale...
